Pinterest, the
photo-sharing social network popular among those who are newly engaged and/or
redecorating their apartments, has made it official: The company will now
support animated GIFs on its site.
Here is a sample of the now supported animated GIF. PINTEREST_GIF
For the
uninitiated, Pinterest is a social network that allows people to share images
of things they like — be they creative socks, vintage maps or magnificent,
glimmering tablescapes. When you find an image, you simply “pin” it to a
personalized digital board by entering the photo’s URL. Eventually, all the
stuff you find on the Internet collects on one gorgeous digital mood board.
Pinterest
always allowed GIFs (i.e. animated images) on its site; they just appeared static,
and you had to click through to the original site they came from to see them
animate.
You still won’t be bombarded with moving images every time you visit a
Pinterest board: GIFs will look the same as regular posts, only they’ll display
a small Play button in the lower-left corner of the image.
As a few blogs
have noted, Pinterest may be attempting to move in on Tumblr’s territory
(disclosure: Yahoo owns Tumblr), which currently reigns supreme in the Internet
GIF kingdom.
All I know is, the more GIFs on the Internet, the merrier.
Wishing you a happy"pinning".....*cheers**
